Pavel Mamaev said that he often visits Orthodox churches after moving to Dubai
Former football player of the Russian national team Pavel Mamaev told Match TV that he often visits Orthodox churches of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) after moving to the UAE.
Mamaev, 34, retired from football in February 2023. In January, the athlete founded a football academy in Dubai together with Dynamo forward Fedor Smolov and has since lived in the UAE.
Was the decision to end your career taken quickly?
“We didn’t think for a long time. We had a son, then we thought about where we could spend the winter with a small child, we arrived in the Emirates, and then we decided to open an academy. There were no thoughts that maybe I still need to play – I switched to another matter. It wasn’t a hard decision. Now I live a happy life with my family. I want to do things that bring pleasure. Thank God that there is such an opportunity.
— How are Orthodox churches in Dubai?
— Yes, it’s all right, people go. I often visit the temple, it is part of the Russian Orthodox Church. I go to all the holidays, – quotes the words Mamaev “Match TV”.
