Agent: “Melekhin is a tough defender. It is strange that so little attention is paid to this.

Football agent Anton Zheleznyakov admitted that he was not surprised that Rostov defender Viktor Melekhin was in the top 100 contenders for the Golden Boy award.

Melekhin and Dynamo midfielder Arsen Zakharyan are on the list of nominees for the Golden Boy award, given to the best player of the year in Europe under the age of 21.

– It’s very nice that he got into the top 100 list of the best young players in Europe. Melekhin is taller than many football players who are really considered talents in their countries. I’m not too surprised that he’s on this list, more surprised why so little attention is paid to the fact that we have a tough defender in our country. Everyone in the press is talking about attacking players, they are calling for an interview, but Melekhin remains on the sidelines of all discussions. But, okay, everything has its time.

Will getting on the Golden Boy list help his career? Yes, representatives of clubs in Italy called, Belgium ask and write about him. Probably, now they will pay more attention to it. We are not going anywhere and we are not in a hurry. We are waiting for good options that would be acceptable to all parties and would be beneficial for his career. We need to take the right step,” Zheleznyakov told Metaratings.ru.

Melekhin has been playing for the main team of Rostov since 2021. Last season, the 19-year-old played 34 matches and made 1 assist. Portal Transfermarkt estimates the market value of the defender at 3.5 million euros.

Semin spoke out in favor of returning to the classic format of the Russian Cup

The old format of the Russian Cup with knockout matches made the football tournament more entertaining and understandable. This opinion was expressed by the former coach of the Russian national team Yuri Semin.

Previously, the Telegram channel Sport Baza reported that the Russian Football Federation (RFU) plans to change the format of the tournament, returning to a single-elimination format.

“I liked the old format of the Russian Cup. It was a real cup draw. I think it’s worth returning to the classic system of knockout matches,” Semin said.

“It was more interesting like this: you arrive in a Second or First League team, you see the full stadiums, the real emotion. This format is closer to me. Everything is clear and understandable, if you lose you’re out,” he added.

From the 2022/23 season the tournament is divided into “path RPL” and “Path of the regions”. “Path RPL“includes the clubs of the Russian Premier League, divided into four groups, playing two rounds, a total of six matches. According to the results of the group stage, the first two places go to the upper round of the playoffs, the third to the lower round, and the fourth is eliminated. The Path of Regions consists of qualifying rounds involving amateur teams and clubs from the Second League. At the stage of the fourth preliminary round, clubs from the First League join the winners of the third round. Sixteen winners play according to the cup (one match), the top four teams are added to the lower round of the Russian Cup playoffs. The winners of the “path” will meet in the super final RPL” and “paths of the regions”.

The current holder of the Russian Cup is Moscow CSKA.

Dynamo planned to fire Shovkovsky in the summer. Why did you wait four months?

Former coach of Dynamo Kiev Alexander Showkovsky He should have been sacked in August after a poor performance in the Champions League qualifiers.

The blue-whites, who lost twice to Cypriot Paphos in the 3rd round of the European Cup (0:1 and 0:2), were relegated to the Europa League and then promoted to the Conference League.

“I know that Dinamo management believes that a change of coach could and should be made in the summer, after they lost to Paphos in the Champions League qualifiers.

Then an opportunity arose. But the necessary candidate was not available,” the source said.

Due to the lack of alternatives, the president of the Kiev club decided to leave Shovkovsky as head coach, but in November the Ukrainian specialist was nevertheless fired and left Dynamo.
