Chanov agreed with the choice of Akinfeev as the best player of the season in CSKA

Former CSKA goalkeeper coach Vyacheslav Chanov told Euro-Futbol.Ru that he agreed with the choice of army fans who recognized goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev as the team’s best player in the 2022/23 season.

Akinfeev took part in 35 matches, playing 11 times without conceding goals.

– Fans recognized Igor Akinfeev as the best player of last season. Do you agree with their choice?

– Definitely. I am not saying this because he is my student. It’s not just about what’s happening on the field. Coaches on the field need an uncle. He made a minimum of mistakes, made many rescues. His actions brought the long-awaited trophy to the club, the club did not take the Cup for a long time and did not become a champion. Yes, they took second and third place, but CSKA has one goal – the championship. He is the leader of the team. If the leader does not work, then the team achieves nothing.

– The top three players also included Fedor Chalov and Ivan Oblyakov. Does your top 3 look the same?

– Yes. For me, these are Igor, Ivan and Fedor.

Mario Fernandez returns to the club after a year away. Are you excited about this event?

– Of course, I’m very happy. I know him as a player and as a person. This is our Mario. Maybe he came to his senses in his homeland. The only thing is, I don’t know anything about his physical condition. And so I’m in favor with both hands, this is definitely a gain for the team.

Last season, CSKA won the Russian Cup and took second place in the national championship.
