Spartak Moscow defender Daniil Denisov told how they tried to lure him to Zenit from St. Petersburg.

Denisov was born in St. Petersburg, where he began studying at the Zenit school. In 2019, he moved to Spartak, making his debut for the main squad of the Red-Whites in October 2021.

– I heard from childhood that Spartak is a great club in our country. I was told about the history of Spartak. At one point, I just decided that this is my team. Well, the principled rivalry is obvious to me, for the SShOR I played against Zenit five times a year. I became a real fan of Spartak already as a teenager, somewhere at the moment of transfer to the academy.

– Tried to lure?

– Certainly. It was about the youth team, but I made a decision for myself and moved to Moscow, to Spartak.

– Is it a one-time refusal or were there several attempts to name it?

– My dad came with me for an interview, even at the level of the academies I was offered to go to the Zenit academy. So my father refused. Yes, I was little then, it was with my dad and mom that I talked.

– Favorite conspiracy theories. In the first part of our interview, we talked with you about the first influx of criticism. Some hysterical bloggers began to write with the message: what do you want, Denisov from St. Petersburg.

– I am from Saint Petersburg. Parents come from the village of Siversky, in the Leningrad Region, from where, by the way, even closer to Tosno, where the RPL team used to be, than to St. Petersburg. I don’t see any connection in the conversations that I play for Spartak, and I myself come from St. Petersburg. This has nothing to do with my work, dedication and attitude to business, ”the Match TV website quotes Denisov as saying.

Last season, the 20-year-old defender played 41 matches for Spartak in all tournaments, in which he scored one goal and gave four assists.
