“I spoke with Messi’s father several times. Leo didn’t want to be under a lot of pressure” – Barcelona president
Barcelona President Joan Laporta once again touched on the topic of Lionel Messi’s refusal to return to the club.
The Catalans tried to negotiate with the Argentine striker this summer, but Messi eventually decided to continue his career in the American Inter Miami.
“I spoke with Messi’s father several times and we respect his decision to go to Miami. Messi wanted to return to Barcelona, but his father told me that after a very difficult adaptation in Paris, Leo did not want to be under much more pressure, but here it will definitely be. I understand the fans too. Barcelona will always be his home and I hope he does well in Miami,” Laporta told TV3.
Messi scored 16 goals and made 16 assists in 32 league games for PSG last season. The seven-time winner of the Golden Ball has been playing for the Parisian team since 2021.
