The disaster of a great club. European Cup triumphant sells out the entire squad

What happened to Sevilla?

The Spanish “Seville” had a very controversial season. In the Example, the Andalusian club took only 12th place, but more than compensated for this failure with a victory in the Europa League. Thus, the team will again play in the Champions League next season.

The problem is that there will be no one to play for Sevilla. Everyone has been transferred!

Radical measures

A loud message about a large-scale transfer campaign spread the newspaper Marca. According to the Spanish media, Sevilla put up for sale the entire main squad that played in the 2022/2023 season.

Goalkeeper Yassin Bunu, forward Youssef En-Nesser and midfielders Lucas Ocampos and Eric Lamela were sent to the exit, in particular. It was also decided to refuse the services of defender Gonzalo Montiel – it was his strike in the penalty shootout that brought Sevilla victory in the Europa League. In total, according to various sources, from 14 to 16 players will leave the team.

Marca clarifies that the decision to actually dissolve Sevilla was announced by club president Pepe Castro at a general meeting. Thus, he intends to improve the financial situation. Moreover, it will not be possible to improve the situation by selling one or two tops, so it was decided to act more radically.

Go to plus

According to the source, Sevilla owes 90 million euros to creditors. Taking into account the cost of the entire main team (Transfermarkt calls the amount of 200-202 million), the sale of players will allow not only to repay loans, but also to get a good plus.

True, because of this decision there have already been personnel losses. Spanish journalists claim that Andalusian sports director Ramon Monchi left the club because he did not want to arrange a mass sale. Monchi is the legend of Sevilla and the person with whom the formation of the team as a serious football unit is associated, so the fans took his departure extremely painfully.

Existence in doubt

Interestingly, the news about Sevilla’s space debts was a bolt from the blue. Previously, no problems were reported in the club. Moreover, the team wanted to seriously strengthen!

Monchi was replaced by Victor Horta, who intended to prepare the club for the Champions League. There have already been preliminary conversations with head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar. It was planned to announce grandiose tasks for the season, the main ones being the victory in the national Spanish tournaments and a successful performance in the Champions League.

Moreover, Sevilla received good payments for participating in the Champions League and winning the Europa League: Forbes estimates them at around 70 million euros. And next year, the Spaniards can earn up to 55 million only in the group stage of the European Cup.

But with such news, which was voiced by Pepe Castro, championships are not won. Moreover, the very existence of the club is called into question. And this despite the gigantic prize money!

Will drivers play?

Of course, there will be demand for Sevilla players. In particular, Chelsea fans on social networks are massively asking their management to sign Yassin Buna. The Moroccan goalkeeper, according to English fans, should be a good replacement for Edouard Mendy, who went to Saudi Arabia. Lucas Ocampos can also move to Foggy Albion: The Daily Star reports Fulham’s interest in the Argentine right winger.

Yes, Sevilla’s financial issues will be resolved. But will the renewed club be able to seriously fight for high places? Or will the once-great team become the whipping boys in every tournament this season?

Literally in a month and a half, Sevilla will play with Manchester City for the UEFA Super Cup. Fans are already joking that a cleaning lady, a driver, a press officer and two masseurs will take the field for the Spaniards, and the goalkeeper will be chosen according to the principle “the fattest one goes to the goal”. However, there is a feeling that soon the jokes will end.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has placed the former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation (UAF) on the wanted list. Andrei Pavelko. This comes from Ukrainian data Ministry of Internal Affairs.

On October 9, it became known that the former UAF president had been indicted on new charges. As clarified by the Strana publication, the investigation believes that Pavelko and a group of other Ukrainian football officials took possession of 9.32 million euros, which UAF received from the Union of European Football Associations (of UEFA) in 2015-2016.

In this case, the president of the association was arrested in November 2022, but managed to get bail. In June 2023 he was arrested again; only in February 2024 did he win the appeal and was released. In the same year, according to Ukrainian AveragePavelko traveled abroad, submitting a certificate of disability. Then “Strana” associated the persecution of Pavelko with the fact that Vladimir Zelensky was pressuring him to force him to hand over the position of president of the association to Ukrainian footballer Andrei Shevchenko, who eventually led the UAF in January 2024.

The RFU does not rule out Karpin merging the posts again

Russian Football Federation (RFU) does not rule out an agreement with the coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin reconciling work in the national team and the club. The Secretary General spoke about it in an interview RFU Maxim Mitrofanov.

In November Karpin announced his departure from Dinamo Moscow; he had been working at the club since June. Later, in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel, he ruled out a future combination.

“Never say ‘never’, everything happens in life,” Mitrofanov said in response to the question of whether he agreed RFU once again combining Karpin. — Basic RFU against the combination of the work of the national team and club coaches. But during the period of exclusion from official competitions this combination is in some cases possible; several coaches, even at the helm of the national teams, combine their work with that of the club”.

“If we talk about the normal competitive period in which the federation and its team should exist, the combination is impossible, the coach and his staff must be completely focused on the team and solving the assigned tasks. We do not know whether Valery Georgievich will ever contact us again with the question of the combination. I don’t think he knows it either. But it seems to me that he himself has drawn important conclusions and expressed them. The combination places a greater burden on the football team. There, too, they must correctly evaluate their capabilities. When a coach is in the national team, objectively he cannot deal with club matters,” Mitrofanov added.

Previously, Karpin also combined work in the national team and Rostov, but left the club in February this year.
