“Enriquez has all the data to become the opening of the season” – General Director of Baltika

Baltika CEO Kirill Volzhenkin told Metaratings.ru that Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez is capable of opening the new season in the RPL.

The signing of a two-year contract with the 29-year-old was announced on Wednesday. Previously, Enriquez played for the youth team of Manchester United, and he also made four appearances in the Premier League for Wigan. The striker’s last club was the Polish Medz.

— How did you manage to invite such a status player? Was there much competition for it? Who won it?

– Angelo was on the lists of our scouts for a long time, Sergey Nikolaevich [Игнашевич] I also watched his games, he highly appreciated the level of the player, so it was important for us to agree with Enriquez. Negotiations proceeded quite quickly, as the player was offered a contract by clubs from the top leagues of Greece and Turkey, and there was no time to waste. It’s good that everything was done quickly enough and the player joined our squad

– How did he attract Baltika? Will it be the opening of the entire Russian season?

– I really want him to become, he has all the data for this: he does a lot of work on the field, he can play both on the edge and in the pull, he has a good shot from both legs. All this, coupled with rich gaming experience, should help the player quickly adapt to our team and help the Baltics in the near future.

– Experience in Manchester United and in general in the English Championship will help the Baltic in the RPL?

– Angelo has a rather interesting career in terms of geography and championships, of course, this experience should help him in the RPL. We hope that he will also help with the adaptation of our other foreign beginners.

– You already have a second newcomer from Latin America. Are there any more player transfers expected from this region?

— As I said earlier, South America is one of the priority areas of our selection now. It is possible that before the closing of the registration period we will have more newcomers from there.

– Why did you acquire a newcomer to the position of an attacker in the presence of Guzina and Musaev? How versatile is Angelo, can he play in other positions?

— We are waiting for a long season, championship and cup matches, there will definitely not be passing games for us, so we need players who can change each other without losing quality for the team. Well, competition hasn’t bothered anyone yet,” Volzhenkin said.

At the end of the last season, Baltika took second place in the MELBET First League and advanced to the RPL WORLD. In the first round of the new season, Sergei Ignashevich’s team will play away against Sochi on July 23.

Watch RPL matches on the TV channels of the Match holding, you can also follow the progress of the games on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.

Calls to remove Russia’s partners sound like desperation – Svishchev

Requests by Ukrainian officials to impose sanctions against Russia’s partners after the renewed admission of Russian athletes to competitions do not find understanding and seem like a gesture of desperation. This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev.

Former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation Andrei Shevchenko called for sanctions and the removal from participation in sports competitions of representatives of countries supporting Russia.

“These are already some gestures of desperation. Our athletes are increasingly allowed to participate in international competitions; there are no conflicts or boycotts. Athletes even communicate with each other, this does not bring negative consequences. The appeals of Ukrainians to remove our athletes from every part of the world no longer find understanding among appropriate sports officials. Therefore, such appeals already seem desperate,” Svishchev said.

Shevchenko made statements about the Ukraine-Sweden match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

UAF President Andrey Shevchenko He talked about the match against the Swedish national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“When we were drawn against Sweden we probably faced our toughest opponent. I have great respect for Swedish football, you have always had good national teams and great players.”

“It’s always difficult to face Scandinavian teams, even though you don’t qualify for the World Cup, because you have so much quality, character and identity. This is similar to us to some extent. I don’t think there are favourites. In the end it all depends on the details, the injury situation and the preparations,” said Shevchenko.

In case of victory, Ukraine will play with the winner of the Poland-Albania doubles for a ticket to the World Cup. Ukraine will play the final match at home on March 31, again conditionally.

In addition to the 12 teams that finished second in their groups, the 4 winners of the Nations League quartet will also participate in the play-offs. All 16 participants are divided into 4 paths. Each route will include a semi-final and a final. The semi-finals will be held on March 26, and the finals will be held on March 31, 2026.
