RFU President Alexander Dyukov explained that the reforms of the structure of the Second League are aimed at increasing the interest of the audience and increasing the commercial potential of the tournament.

In the upcoming season, the Second League is partially switching to the spring-autumn system.

– First of all, the task of reforming the Second League is to make teams play more matches with opponents of equal strength. This, of course, will increase the interest in the league on the part of the audience, which will lead to an increase in the commercial potential of the competition. We already see that the attention of sponsors to the tournament is increasing. Before the reform, it was simply minimal, but now an agreement has been concluded with a bookmaker. Also, a greater number of competitive matches creates conditions for the development of youth. Another reason for the reform is that there are a number of clubs for which the game according to the spring-autumn system is more convenient, Dyukov told the Championship.

The 2023/24 season in a new format for the league will begin on July 16.
