There are few who are heard here.
La Liga is the league where many players under 23 are already considered stars, and the amount of compensation for them is astonishing. But you can always find young stars for whom you don’t have to shell out a tidy sum. This is especially true during the summer off-season. Previously, we created similar conditional token squads for the leagues of England, France and Germany. It’s time for Spain. And you don’t know all of these guys, but there’s a good chance they’ll come to the fore in the next few years.
Arnau Tenas (goalkeeper, 22, Barcelona, free transfer)
This summer, the Spanish Under-21 goalkeeper, finalist at the last Under-21 Euro, became a free agent. Previously, he was a regular in the Barcelona reserves, keeping 15 out of 26 clean sheets last season. As you would expect from a Catalan pupil, he has exceptional foot control and excellent grassroots skills as a goalkeeper. So he can become a solid foundation for many teams.
Juan Miranda (Defender, 23, Real Betis, €7m)
In June 2021, Miranda moved from Barcelona to Betis and found stability. He established himself in the base of the Sevillian team in the full-back position, and also ended up in the Under-21 Euro. This is an energetic and technically gifted footballer who skillfully combines offensive and defensive skills.
Jon Pacheco (defender, 22, Real Sociedad, €6m)
There is a demand these days for centre-backs who are good with the ball. But Pacheco can be attributed to the players of the old school. This is a strong and powerful defender who wins martial arts, knows how to resist any opponent hard. Real Sociedad’s youth academy has released another talent. And he also impressed in the Spain Under-21 squad at Euro Under-21.
Arnau Martinez (defender, 20 years old, Girona, €15m)
Martinez is capable of playing both as a centre-back and as a right-back. He had a fantastic last season with Girona. It is not easy for any opponent to pass him, but in addition to persistence, Martinez has excellent technique and dribbling, which is not typical for players in his position. Arnau is able to organize the game from the baseline.
Ivan Fresneda (defender, 18, Valladolid, €15m)
He had just completed his debut season in La Liga but didn’t look out of place on the pitch. A powerful defender is impressive not only at holding down opponents, but also at batting when he attacks. Therefore, I found application on the flank, where you can move forward. Barcelona, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have shown interest in him.
Aimar Oros (midfielder, 21 years old, Osasuna, €15m)
The young Osasuna midfielder did well last season and helped his side to seventh place. Oros’ main role was in tackling the ball, interceptions, but he also excelled in creating, organizing attacks early on. Therefore, he scored three goals and six assists.
Rodri (midfielder, 23, Real Betis, €8m)
Betis have a good background in producing talented midfielders. You can remember Fabian Ruiz and Dani Ceballos. Sanchez is one of those. This is an energetic conductor of ideas and organizer of attacks, possessing a liveliness of mind and legs, as well as excellent technique. He tries not to complicate the game in the center of the field, but acts assertively and dynamically.
Samuel Costa (midfielder, 22, Almería, €5m)
There are only two players on this list who are not Spanish. And the Portuguese Costa is one of them. Last season he shone with Almeria. This is a hardworking attacking midfielder who can be placed even in front of the defensive line, helping the defense, and also knows how to perfectly determine the direction of attacks, building their structure.
Alex Baena (forward, 21, Villarreal, €20m)
This is a character on the verge of stardom. But we will still include him in the list as an unfinished star, but a promising footballer. Last season was a turning point for him. In La Liga he scored six goals in 35 games and showed his versatility. He is able to play both on the edge and on the flanks of the attack, where he has been used most often. Quick, dexterous, and quick-witted, the winger loves to come up with witty moves and create room for further discovery. The talented game of him is able to admire. Such players are able to give enthusiasm to any attack and a non-standard approach. And fans usually like these players.
Gonzalo Plata (forward, 22, Valladolid, €5m)
The second non-Spanish player on this list. Represents Ecuador. This winger has incredible pace and a huge range of skills. The fee confuses any defender with non-standard solutions and unexpected connections to free zones. It is rumored that Plata has a wide range of top European clubs behind him with whom he is able to emerge and become one of the young stars in the coming seasons.
Sergio Camello (forward, 22, Atlético Madrid, €10m)
The Mattresses loaned Camello to Rayo Vallecano last season, where the young forward has had great training as a striker. He has scored seven goals in all competitions. One can, of course, say that at the age of 22 the star scorers are already showing themselves much brighter, but we are spoiled by the example of Mbappe and his ilk. We must not forget that most of the stars are revealed later. And Camello is on the brink. The hardworking striker knows how to put pressure on the defense, he has great sensitivity for defenders, partners and the goal. This is what is needed to achieve success in the attack.
