“The match with the Brazilian national team will be an example for others that you can play with Russia” – Koloskov
The match with Brazil may open up new opportunities for the Russian team to play friendly games with other national teams, said Vyacheslav Koloskov, Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU).
RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov previously told Sport24 that under certain circumstances, the Russian team could play a friendly match with the Brazilian national team as early as next year.
– The Brazilian national team can be assessed as the best team in the world. Any country would be honored to play with such a team. If the RFU manages to reach an agreement, it will be a big progress. Russian fans will have a huge interest in this match.
Mitrofanov said nothing encouraging. We hope everything works out. Playing Brazil could open up new opportunities for friendly matches against other teams. The strongest team in the world plays with Russia, while not violating any sanctions. This will be an example for others that you can play with Russia and there will be nothing for it,” Koloskov told Metaratings.ru.
The Russian national team has been suspended from competitions under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA since February 2022. Since then, Valery Karpin’s team has played five friendly matches – with the teams of Kyrgyzstan (2:1), Tajikistan (0:0), Uzbekistan (0:0), Iran (1:1) and Iraq (2:0).
