The head coach of Santa Coloma, Dmitry Cheryshev, told RB Sport that he considers the dismissal of Stanislav Cherchesov from Ferencváros to be too tough a move.
On Wednesday, Ferencváros lost at home with a score of 0:3 to the Faroese Klaksvik in the second leg of the 1st qualifying round of the Champions League and dropped out of the tournament. After the game, the president of the Hungarian club, Gabor Kubatov, held a personal meeting with Cherchesov. It was decided to leave the Russian specialist from the post of head coach.
“Of course, it’s tough,” says Cheryshev. – I think that Stas deserved to continue working. But anything can happen. Apparently, going further was a big goal for the leaders of the club. Everyone is well aware that any promotion at this level is a good financial support for the club. This is the decision that was finally made.
– There was talk that the Ferencváros players almost deliberately leaked Cherchesov. Do you believe in such a conspiracy theory?
– No. Why do football players need such a serious burden? It turned out the way it did. I do not think that the guys were leaking or were against the head coach. For two years they became champions, last year they reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. I don’t think it’s true.
Cherchesov has headed Ferencváros since December 2021, during which time the Hungarian club has twice become the champion of Hungary and once the owner of the Cup of the country.
