Midfielder of the Russian national team Arsen Zacharyan spoke about his move to Real Sociedad.
They wanted me (Real Sociedad) and I was happy to go to La Liga! Immediately agree. There were no special expectations, but I like everything: a good base, a good infrastructure, a coach. He only speaks Spanish, the second coach translates me into English. I think that over time I will improve my Spanish, we will communicate personally. Will I learn Basque? Why not!
As soon as I heard about Real Sociedad’s offer, I immediately decided to move here. I have always followed Spanish football and Real Sociedad has always been at the top for me. I saw what kind of football the team plays: I like the style of play, the scheme, how the coach sees football. Real Sociedad caught me with the fact that they really wanted to see me at the club. How do I rate myself as a footballer? It’s not my place to praise and rate myself, but I think I’m the type of player who likes to play attack, score and be good for the team. The atmosphere at the match against Celta was super: everyone was jumping and screaming. It was great.
Sitting on the podium, however, is much more difficult than playing on the pitch – I really wanted to go out, help the team, prove myself. I don’t know yet when I will be able to play. I train with the team, but it all depends on the documents. I didn’t expect the team to receive me so well: I just went to the base, the staff and the players, everyone immediately greeted and helped me. I know that Valery Karpin and Dmitry Khokhlov played here and made a great contribution to the team. We are currently working with Valery Georgievich in the Russian national team, but we haven’t had a chance to talk to him about Real Sociedad yet. We contacted Dmitry Valeryevich, he told me that he would tell me any place in San Sebastian.
The first day was very difficult: flight, check-in, difficult medical examination, signing the contract. It’s great today: I trained, I got to know the team. The guys are all friendly, I didn’t expect that – they all helped. Mikel Oyarzabal personally helped during training. Very happy to be here!
