The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on its official website published a statement on the situation with the head of the organization Luis Rubiales.
After recent events and unacceptable behavior that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the presidents of the autonomous and territorial federations are calling for the immediate resignation of Luis Rubiales from the post of president of the RFEF.
We heartily congratulate the women’s soccer team on winning the World Cup. We appreciate the importance and successful legacy of Spanish sport. We express our admiration and gratitude to this unique group of players and congratulate all who have made purposeful contributions to the development of women’s football over the years.
We will ask the competent authorities to carry out a deep and rapid restructuring of the strategic position of the federation to enter a new phase of the management of Spanish football.
After FIFA removed Mr. Luis Rubiales, the internal protocols of the federation were activated.
Furthermore, we have called on President Pedro Rocha to immediately withdraw the latest communication on behalf of the federation FIFA AND of UEFA.
RFEF remains committed to continuing to implement its investment and equity policies for the development of women’s football.
Finally, the Commission of Presidents has unanimously supported Pedro Rocha in leading a new phase in which dialogue and reconciliation with all football institutions are the line to follow.
After the victory of the Spanish women’s team at the World Cup, the president of the RFEF kissed one of the players. Rubiales has been called to step down, but he has refused to do so.
