Sports psychologist Vadim Gushchin believes that Spaniard Guillermo Abascal, head coach of Spartak, has problems establishing contact with players due to the language barrier.

In the match of the 7th round of the WORLD RPL, Spartak Moscow lost away to Krasnodar (0: 2) and takes 9th place in the standings, 7 points behind the leader. After the game, Abascal stated that he made a mistake with the squad for the game.

– Here you can talk not only about Abascal, but also about another coach from Spain – Pepe Clotet, who works at Torpedo, – says Gushchin. – He behaves exactly the same as Abascal: nervous, freaking out. The main problem is that these people are not at home. In another culture, no one teaches Russian, all communication is through an interpreter. What is the feeling of a person in another country? That he is misunderstood or misunderstood. This is good for the Czech (Marcel) Lichka – he got accustomed here. And it is difficult for a coach from a Western country in Russia, especially in the current political situation. They understand that no one will feel sorry for them here.

– And you yourself are not averse to creating a situation in which they will terminate the contract with them, paying a penalty?

– This also cannot be ruled out. The German (Sandro) Schwartz worked successfully at Dynamo. But he took it and left. That is, this is a common problem for foreigners in Russia. And then you need to ask the main question: who is Abaskal? What are his achievements? Why do we think that he should coach brilliantly? Geniuses have not come to us for a long time. The last was Luciano Spalletti, who coached Zenit.

– What is the conclusion on Abaskal?

You don’t have to be too hard on him. He is in a difficult situation, it is hard for him. Spartak is not a place where you are treated kindly, no matter who comes to train there. I remember what they said about (Konstantin) Beskov when he headed Spartak: both arrogant, and authoritarian, and a gentleman … But foreigners still do not understand what they think of them and how they should react to this or that situation. In today’s Russia, where people from abroad are treated suspiciously, it is especially difficult for them, – RB Sport quotes Gushchin.

Abascal headed Spartak in the summer of 2022. The contract with the Spanish specialist was concluded until the summer of 2024, and in February of this year it was extended for another season.
