Luis Rubiales has decided to resign from the position of president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
He said this in an interview with a British journalist Pier Morganand also released a statement.
Good evening. Today at 9.30pm I informed the interim President, Mr. Pedro Rocha, of my resignation from the position of President of the RFEF. I also informed him that I had resigned from the position of Vice President. of UEFA.
After a quick disqualification imposed FIFA, as well as other proceedings initiated against me, it is obvious that I will not be able to return to my post. Insisting on waiting and holding on to your seat won’t work. This will not bring anything positive either to the Federation or to Spanish football. Also because there are forces that will prevent my return.
I don’t want Spanish football to suffer throughout this championship and, above all, I take this decision after being convinced that my departure will contribute to the stability that will allow Europe and Africa to remain united in the dream of 2030, which will allow our Country the largest event in the world.
I have to look to the future. There is something that occupies me firmly. I believe in the truth and will do everything in my power to make it prevail. My daughters, my family and the people who love me have suffered from excessive persecution as well as many lies, but it is also true that every day the truth prevails more and more. I extend a warm hug to all workers, assembly members, federations and football representatives in general and wish them good luck. Thanks to everyone who supported me during this time.
