Former U.S. head coach Bruce Arena has resigned as coach of MLS side New England Revolution six weeks after the league placed him on administrative leave over “allegations that he made insensitive and inappropriate remarks,” reports club press service.
“The investigation has been a difficult and difficult process for me and my family, but hearing from so many people who have been part of my career has been truly rewarding and has helped make this decision easier,” he said in a statement released by the club.
The league issued its own statement Saturday night, noting that if Arena wishes to continue operating the league in the future, he must first submit a petition to MLS executives.
“I know I made some mistakes, and moving forward, I plan to take some time to reflect on this situation and take steps to correct what happened.” And although this decision was not easy, I am sure that it is the right one,” the coach added.
Bruce Arena served as a two-time coach of the US national team and managed the Los Angeles Galaxy, DC United and New York Red Bulls.
