Karpin as a coach at Spartak was better than Emery, Emenike said

Former Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike noted that Spaniard Unai Emery, after joining the capital club, destroyed everything in the team that Valery Karpin had created before him.

The Nigerian forward played for the Red and Whites from 2011 to 2013. Emery signed a contract with Spartak in June 2012, but in November, after a devastating defeat from Dynamo in the 17th round of the championship (1:5), he was fired, after which Karpin again became the head coach.

— Under Karpin, everyone knew what they wanted, the players fought for the coach and the club. Valery was replaced by Emery and changed absolutely the entire system, the players, and adopted the Spanish style of play. He turned out to be alien to everyone, it was difficult for the team with Unai – I, Dzyuba, and other leaders did not play. I can say with confidence: Karpin was better than Emery. He ran the locker room, cracked jokes and loved his players. We were ready to defeat anyone for Karpin. But not for Emery’s sake,” Emenike said in an interview with Sport24.
