CSKA Moscow is currently in a state of restructuring, which began back in 2018, said Red-Blues goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.

After seven rounds of the Russian Championship, CSKA is in seventh place in the table with 11 points.

— At what stage of development is the club? Restructuring takes place as the season progresses.

– She’s been going for a long time. When the Berezutsky brothers, Sergei Ignashevich, Bibras Natkho, Pontus Wernbloom, Akhmed Musa left in 2018. All of them together were worth about 50 million, although they were already middle-aged. We then lost almost the entire main team; we bought guys for the future.

But at a distance it turned out that most of those guys, by and large, did not play here. They’re just not even on the team. So perestroika continues to this day. Every year, every transfer window, fans demand newcomers, but not everything is so simple.

— Do CSKA players only think about gold medals or are they content with less? Only you and Kirill Nababkin remain from the champion squad.

— We probably look at things adequately. You need to use your head and understand what you are capable of. I said that year that it was a blessing to take second place. The beginning of the season turned out to be quite good, then in the fall there was a decline, but after the winter training camp everything changed.

We shot and took silver medals. For me, that season became the most successful in the team in 5-6 years, because there was “silver” and a trophy – the Cup,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Akinfeev as saying.

On Saturday, September 16, CSKA will host Krylia Sovetov in the 8th round of the MIR RPL. Watch the live broadcast of the match on the MATCH PREMIER channel, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
