The former head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales could make a special address after the scandal with the kiss of football player Jennifer Hermoso.
Rubiales’ adviser Luis Arroyo prepared a speech for the assembly, which was held on August 25, but the functionary refused to deliver it, Marca reports, citing El Mundo Deportivo.
“I didn’t know how to assess the sensitivity of the moment. It was a complete mistake.
I did not appreciate the inadequacy of my behavior the next day, coming up with nuances and excuses. I should have said then what I say now: “Sorry.”
It is clear that my behavior was inappropriate and I once again apologize. But I am also completely convinced that there is no punishable act in my behavior, and if necessary, I can confirm this,” the text of the message says.
Rubiales found himself at the center of a scandal after the final of the Women’s World Cup, which took place on August 20 and ended with the victory of the Spanish team. During the awards ceremony, Rubiales kissed Hermoso on the lips. After that, she said that she was unpleasant and she “did not consent to the kiss.” The head of the RFEF was suspended by FIFA from football activities for 90 days and later resigned from his post in the Spanish federation.
