General Director of PARIS NN David Melik-Huseinov said that the club respects the decision of midfielder Edgar Sevikyan to play for the Armenian national football team.
Head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin included the 22-year-old midfielder on the extended list for the September training camp. But Sevikyan refused the invitation, explaining that he had decided to play for the Armenian team. Press attache of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) Hayk Karapetyan told Match TV that the organization is preparing documents for Sevikyan to play for the Armenian national team in October.
— How did you react to Sevikyan’s decision to change his sports citizenship?
— We respect any decisions of our players. It is no coincidence that in the strategic concept of the club’s development we laid down the following principle: “By developing players, the club develops.” We respect the opinion and position of our players – if Edgar gets more development in the Armenian national team, then we will develop more as a club. And this is only a plus for us.
— Will he get more development in the Armenian national team than in Russia?
“I hope that Edgar chose the Armenian national team not because the stars aligned this way and that this is not some kind of lot, but a pragmatic story. It is obvious that the Armenian national team will play more matches in the near future with teams that are competing to qualify for the World and European Championships. Therefore, Edgar needs to develop, and we will certainly use his skills to our advantage,” RB Sport quotes Melik-Huseinov.
This season, Sevikyan played in 13 matches for Nizhny Novgorod in all tournaments, in which he scored five goals.
