Former England player Kieron Dyer performed a liver transplant.
In 2021, the former Newcastle and West Ham midfielder announced that he had been diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis. This is a chronic or long-term disease that gradually damages the bile ducts. This disease cannot be cured. Dyer, who is Chesterfield’s manager, was released from hospital today. He commented on the topic:
The gratitude I feel is difficult to express. I feel happier and healthier than ever.
Strangely enough, football has become even more important to me at this time. I’ve watched more games in the last three months in hospital than at any other time in my life.
I can’t wait to get back to coaching and working in the media, but at this time I ask for privacy for myself and my family as I want to make a full recovery.
