The goalkeeper collapsed unconscious after an explosion on the field. Savagery in the European top league

The Clermont goalkeeper was carried off the pitch on a stretcher. The match had to be stopped.

The match of the eighth round of the French Ligue 1 between Montpellier and Clermont did not end at all as the fans of both teams wanted. The fan’s dangerous act led to one of the players leaving the field on a stretcher, and the rest leaving for the locker room ahead of schedule. Now the fate of the game is in doubt.

But the hosts were as close as possible to victory!

With a Russian trace

Both teams approached the head-to-head meeting not in the best condition. Montpellier were in eighth place with only two wins in seven matches. “Clermont” finished at the bottom of the standings with two points.

It is noteworthy that the statistics of personal meetings were on the side of the “red-blues”. Footballers from Clermont-Ferrand won eight victories in 14 matches, while Montpellier celebrated success only four times. In two more games the teams shared points.

Russian football fans had someone to follow in the match: ex-football players of Moscow Spartak Maximiliano Cofrier and Shamar Nicholson were playing for Clermont.

Two doubles and two penalties

The first half turned out to be rich in goals. Montpellier twice took the lead through goals from Moussa Al-Tamari and Tezhi Savanier, but Clermont fought back through the efforts of Yoann Magnin and Cheick Konaté. It is noteworthy that Nicholson gave both assists for the Red-Blues.

In the second half, Al-Tamari and Savanier scored once more. It is worth noting that Teji sent both of his goals into the goal from the 11-meter mark. From the 55th minute, Montpellier played in the minority – defender Maxim Esteve received two yellow cards.

Concussion and middle finger

At the end of the match, it was really hot on the field at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier.

In the 93rd minute, a firecracker, thrown onto the field by one of the Montpellier fans, exploded near Clermont goalkeeper Maury Dio. The goalkeeper fell on the lawn and lost consciousness. Referee Florent Batta stopped the game and asked the players to go to the locker rooms.

At the same time, Clermont midfielder Vivaldo Borges do Santos Neto showed the middle finger to the stands. The referee did not appreciate the player’s outburst and showed him a straight red card.

The injured Dio left the field on a stretcher. According to the preliminary version, he was concussed from a firecracker explosion.

Extremely disappointing loss

Now Montpellier’s victory is in big doubt. The fate of the match will be decided soon. It is likely that the hosts will be awarded a technical defeat, and their fans will be punished in the most serious way.

There have already been such cases in the history of football. The most famous happened in 2015 at the match between the national teams of Russia and Montenegro. Then a fire thrown from the stands of the stadium in Podgorica hit goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. The goalkeeper suffered a concussion and a burn to the neck. Then various objects flew onto the field more than once, which is why the game was stopped. As a result, the Montenegrins received a technical defeat and a large fine, and the fan who threw a fire at Akinfeev was imprisoned for several months.

The former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation is wanted in Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has placed the former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation (UAF) on the wanted list. Andrei Pavelko. This comes from Ukrainian data Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the database, Pavelko is accused of two criminal articles: embezzlement, misappropriation of property or misappropriation of property through abuse of office, committed on a large scale or by an organized group, as well as official forgery.

On October 9, it became known that the former UAF president had been indicted on new charges. As clarified by the Strana publication, the investigation believes that Pavelko and a group of other Ukrainian football officials took possession of 9.32 million euros, which UAF received from the Union of European Football Associations (of UEFA) in 2015-2016.

Pavelko had previously been accused of carrying out bribery schemes during the construction of a plant to produce artificial turf for football pitches. In this case, the president of the association was arrested in November 2022, but managed to get bail. In June 2023 he was arrested again; only in February 2024 did he win the appeal and was released. In the same year, according to Ukrainian AveragePavelko traveled abroad, submitting a certificate of disability. Then “Strana” associated the persecution of Pavelko with the fact that Vladimir Zelensky was pressuring him to force him to hand over the position of president of the association to Ukrainian footballer Andrei Shevchenko, who eventually led the UAF in January 2024.

The RFU does not rule out Karpin merging the posts again

Russian Football Federation (RFU) does not rule out an agreement with the coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin reconciling work in the national team and the club. The Secretary General spoke about it in an interview RFU Maxim Mitrofanov.

In November Karpin announced his departure from Dinamo Moscow; he had been working at the club since June. Later, in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel, he ruled out a future combination.

“Never say ‘never’, everything happens in life,” Mitrofanov said in response to the question of whether he agreed RFU once again combining Karpin. — Basic RFU against the combination of the work of the national team and club coaches. But during the period of exclusion from official competitions this combination is in some cases possible; several coaches, even at the helm of the national teams, combine their work with that of the club”.

“If we talk about the normal competitive period in which the federation and its team should exist, the combination is impossible, the coach and his staff must be completely focused on the team and solving the assigned tasks. We do not know whether Valery Georgievich will ever contact us again with the question of the combination. I don’t think he knows it either. But it seems to me that he himself has drawn important conclusions and expressed them. The combination places a greater burden on the football team. There, too, they must correctly evaluate their capabilities. When a coach is in the national team, objectively he cannot deal with club matters,” Mitrofanov added.

Previously, Karpin also combined work in the national team and Rostov, but left the club in February this year.
