Santa Coloma head coach Dmitry Cheryshev said that he was surprised by the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) not to allow Russian youth teams to participate in official matches.
On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee asked the leadership of the union to propose a solution that would allow the Russian national teams U‑17 and younger (both girls and boys) to be reinstated. According to media reports, on Tuesday UEFA abandoned the idea of returning Russian youth teams to tournaments, as it was impossible to find “a technical solution to allow Russian teams to be admitted.”
– This is some kind of incomprehensible decision, today it was allowed, tomorrow not. We need to deal with this, and I think that the leaders of our football will try to talk with UEFA and find out why the second such decision was made. For me it came as a surprise,” RB Sport quotes Cheryshev as saying.
After the initial decision to allow Russian U-17 teams to participate in official matches, a number of countries announced a boycott of matches with Russia.
