Spartak Moscow should look for a candidate to replace Guillermo Abascal as the team’s head coach, says former CSKA football player Vladimir Ponomarev.

After 11 rounds, Spartak ranks sixth in the Russian Championship standings, gaining 17 points. Previously, the media reported that Abascal could be replaced by Stanislav Cherchesov and Valery Karpin.

— If Spartak is looking for a new head coach, then they are doing the right thing. He (Abascal) is already confused and doesn’t understand how to play and who to play. Because of this, the players are also in the dark, their mood drops. They also got into the habit of giving up after conceding goals. The latest games show this.

I think that Abascal was unable to adapt to Russian football. Many couldn’t. The point here is that he didn’t come to a ready-made team. It was necessary to build a team. But this is still much more difficult than joining a ready-made club. So a change of coach for Spartak now looks logical. The team needs new ideas,” Ponomarev told Euro-Futbol.Ru.

After a break for national team matches, the capital team will host PARI NN, which is in fifth place in the standings, in the 12th round of the RPL on October 22.
