The disqualifications of the Kenyan and Russian national teams are different. We had a real disqualification: we couldn’t play any matches. Russia is suspended only from official matches. It’s a big difference. Russia is making the best use of the time it has. Karpin is building a new team, with many new players. He may continue to do so when Russia returns to the international scene.
For us the ban was a serious problem, because nothing was working in the federation, no national team. We couldn’t even conduct training camps. This has affected the championship: it is not as competitive as any other European championship. For this reason, on our return we had serious problems. And now they exist: there are physical, psychological and tactical differences between our players and those who play in other foreign teams.
