Midfielder of Newcastle and the Italian national team Sandro Tonali admitted that he placed bets on matches of Milan, for which he played before the start of the current season. This is reported by the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Last week, the Italian midfielder testified at the prosecutor’s office, admitting guilt. Tonali also admitted that he suffers from a gambling addiction and declared his readiness to make a deal with the investigation.
According to the source, Tonali told the prosecutor’s office that he placed bets on matches involving Milan, but only in those cases when he himself did not take to the field. The publication suggests that the prosecutor’s office may request a three to four year disqualification for Tonali, but the sentence is halved when the accused pleads guilty. It is believed that the midfielder may receive a one-year disqualification, since he has already admitted guilt and is ready to cooperate.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) previously suspended Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli from matches for 7 months. The football player was punished for violating a rule that prohibits the possibility of betting on football events organized by FIGC, FIFA and UEFA.
