Midfielder “Monza” Alexander Gomez released a statement following the decision to disqualify the player for doping.

Following recent articles written about my possible anti-doping rule violation, I would like to communicate the following to the media and the public:

1) I confirm that I have received notification from the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission of the suspension of my license for a period of two years.

2) I have always not only followed all the rules scrupulously, but I have also behaved as a strong defender of clean sport and sportsmanship, categorically condemning any form of doping.

3) I have never relied and do not intend to rely on prohibited practices.

4) The alleged violation was due to the presence of terbutaline in my system, which I accidentally ingested with a spoonful of cough syrup for my son to relieve his cough. It is important to clarify that terbutaline is approved for professional athletes and does not improve performance in football in any way.

5) Without going into the merits of the situation, I asked my lawyers to consider the assumption that the disciplinary case was not considered according to the rules.

6) Finally, I want to thank everyone who has shown me love and support during these difficult times in my professional life.
