Former CSKA football player Vladimir Ponomarev considers the idea of the possible inclusion of Belarusian clubs in the Russian championship to be excellent.

Earlier, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said at the “Russia – a Sports Power” forum in Perm that work is underway on the possible inclusion of clubs from Belarus in the list of participants in the Russian Football Championship. The Russian side is already waiting for concrete proposals on teams from the neighboring state, which will then be discussed with the Russian Football Union (RFU).

– That would be wonderful! At one time, we wanted to unite the championship with Ukraine – we allocated money, Gazzaev had to do this, and then everything died out. As for the Belarusians, I agree, it’s great, great! Our competition would increase, we would be able to understand what we are really worth,” Gazeta.Ru quotes Ponomarev as saying.
