Former England and Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater announced his retirement from professional football.
I would just like to announce my retirement from professional football. It’s probably happened before, especially last year, but I think it’s time to make it official now.
I didn’t think it would bother me, but saying it at that moment was almost like scratching my nerves a little. I think I was prepared by not stopping at the peak, and when things calmed down it helped me.
I think I’ve been in limbo for too long. I wanted to play, but I didn’t have the opportunity to do so at a level where I felt valued. I thought I felt anxious for no reason. I was happy not playing football and at the same time happy while playing, so I just shake hands with the sport.
If I played week after week and had to stop due to injury or age, I imagine it would be more difficult.
