Inter Miami striker Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or award for the best football player in the world for the eighth time according to France Football magazine.
The ceremony took place in Paris at the Chatelet Theater. The top three according to the voting results included Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City).
Since August 2023, the Argentine has been playing for the American club Inter Miami; last season he became the French champion with Paris Saint-Germain. As part of the Argentina national team, Messi won the World Cup in Qatar and was recognized as the most valuable player of the tournament.
The prize for the best young footballer was given to Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham. Argentine goalkeeper of Aston Villa Emiliano Martinez won the Lev Yashin award for the best goalkeeper of the year. As part of the national team, he won gold at the 2022 World Championship. Manchester City and Norway forward Erling Haaland won the Gerd Müller Award, given to the most successful football player. He has 56 goals to his name.

Messi holds the record for the most Ballon d’Or awards; Saudi Al-Nasr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the prize five times.
