Nurbiy Khakunov, the first coach of Alexei Bugaev, commented on the information about the detention of the ex-football player of the Russian national team in Krasnodar on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Earlier, information appeared that a criminal case had been opened against Bugaev for attempting to sell drugs on a particularly large scale. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that about 500 grams of N‑methylephedrone were confiscated from the detainee.

— I heard that Alexey was detained with drugs. How could it come to this? It’s no secret that he had problems with alcohol. We fought as hard as we could, but failed. He arrived at Krasnodar already in great trouble and hardly played. I feel sorry for him, because he could have played in the national team, but he took such a bad path. That’s for sure. His stats were very good, he was very strong in wrestling,” the Championship quotes Khakunov as saying.

The ex-footballer of the Russian national team completed his professional career in 2010 at the age of 29 years. He played 7 matches for the national team and was a participant in Euro 2004. As a member of Lokomotiv in 2005, he won the Russian Super Cup and became the bronze medalist of the national championship.
