Representatives of the Colombian National Liberation Army are holding Luis Fernando Diaz, the father of Liverpool football player Luis Diaz, the press service of the government peace delegation reports.
Media reported that on Saturday the football player’s parents were kidnapped near their home in northeastern Colombia. According to preliminary information, several armed men attacked them at a gas station and took them towards the state border with Venezuela.
“Today we learned that the abduction on October 28 was organized by representatives of a unit that is part of the ANO. Despite the fact that Mrs. Marulanda was released a few hours later, the footballer’s father remains with the kidnappers for five days.
We express our solidarity with Luis Diaz and his family and demand that the ELN immediately release his father. We remind the ANO that kidnapping is a criminal practice that violates international humanitarian law,” the delegation said in a statement on social media.
This season, Diaz has played 11 matches for Liverpool, scored three goals and made one assist.
