Chaika head coach Igor Semshov called it the right decision to hold a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Cuba in Volgograd.
On Friday, the Russian Football Union (RFU) announced that the Russian national team will play a friendly match with the Cuban team in Volgograd on November 20. The game will start at 19:30 Moscow time.
– Now we have no time to choose an opponent. Any game of the Russian national team is good both for the team and for the fans. You have to play, no matter what your opponents are. Of course, it is necessary to hold matches of the national team in those cities where the national team is not seen so often.
— Will there be a full stadium in Volgograd?
— Definitely, Volgograd is a football city. We see in the Second League how many fans come. 15 thousand people gather for each match. The stadium will be completely full. It’s right that such a match will be held in Volgograd,” RB Sport quotes Semshov.
The Cuban national team ranks 169th in the FIFA rankings. In 2023, the Cuban national team took part in the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
