Scottish police have launched an investigation into an incident that allegedly occurred at a national football championship match between Dundee United and Rangers, reports BBC.
Dundee hosted Rangers in the 11th round of the Scottish Championship on November 1. At the 18th minute, the match was suspended due to a pyrotechnic show in the stands, which created a smoke screen in the arena.
During restricted visibility in the stands, a 13-year-old girl may have been the victim of sexual assault. Police confirmed they have launched an investigation into the allegation.
“Dundee Football Club is co-operating with police and the club’s child protection officer is supporting the investigation,” a team spokesman said.
After volleys of pyrotechnics and security measures taken, the match was resumed. The guests won a crushing victory with a score of 5:0.
