Former Torpedo midfielder Sergei Kormiltsev believes that Konstantin Zyryanov will be able to achieve success if he is appointed head coach of the Moscow football club.

On Wednesday, Zyryanov left the post of head coach of Novorossiysk Chernomorets.

— I would only welcome it if a coach appears at Torpedo who gave a lot to this team as a player and made a name for himself there. Moreover, Zyryanov’s coaching staff includes Dmitry Vyazmikin, the famous torpedo bomber.

— What could Zyryanov’s failure in Chernomorets be connected with?

— There are many objective reasons. Firstly, it’s not the strongest lineup. And if they went through the first games on some kind of emotional outburst, then in the long run it becomes difficult. Especially in this difficult league, when other teams are starting to show good football, and you have a short bench… It’s difficult to resist and achieve results in such a situation.

– But Torpedo is also playing now in this “difficult league”. Could things be different for Zyryanov there?

— “Torpedo” has a slightly different situation, they have skilled football players. And it will take a very long time to understand the reasons for the team’s current failures. Perhaps we need to demand more from the players.

— “Black and White” last week approved young Artem Gorlov as head coach. Were you not surprised by this decision?

“I was surprised, of course, but the management knows better, they are there together.” But, as we see, after the change from Spanish specialist Josep Clotet to Gorlov, nothing positive happened. I watched the last couple of Torpedo matches – it smacks of “hopelessness”. Although, I repeat, the players seem to be all gathered to play for the First League, many are experienced, who have completed the RPL.

— Could Zyryanov shake up the situation emotionally?

— Torpedo traditions must be maintained. And I think Konstantin Zyryanov is an ideal candidate for the position of head coach,” Kormiltsev told RB Sport.
