Honored coach of Russia Valery Nepomnyashchy said that he considers former Spartak midfielders Ilya Tsymbalar, Fyodor Cherenkov and ex-Zenit forward Andrei Arshavin to be the best players in the history of Russian football.

— The strongest football player in the history of Russian football? Most of the time I did not see how Tsymbalar’s career developed, but I always admired how he could play. Also Fyodor Cherenkov is a separate, unfortunately not very happy story, but he is an intellect of the highest level. It’s difficult for me to single out one person between Tsymbalar and Cherenkov. As for Arshavin, he already lived in a different time, played different football, but left a bright mark. These three are the best for me and I can’t and don’t want to put any of them in first place,” Metaratings.ru quotes Nepomniachtchi as saying.

Tsymbalar played for Spartak from 1993 to 1999. He played 204 matches for the red and white team, scored 54 goals and made 40 assists. Cherenkov defended the colors of the Moscow club from 1977 to 1990, in 1991 and 1993. He has 117 matches for Spartak.

Arshavin played 376 matches for Zenit (80 goals and 108 assists).
