Former CSKA midfielder and the Serbian national football team Milos Krasic believes that goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev will not retire in the coming years.

“It was immediately obvious that he was a young and promising goalkeeper. At first we thought that Igor was not tall enough to be a goalkeeper, but he had a very good reaction and a powerful jump. When one person remains the number one goalkeeper in the club and national team for 10–20 years, what can you say? He is a legend. I think he will play in goal until he is 40–42–43 years old – like Buffon! Or maybe more. I would like Akinfeev to play longer than Buffon. In recent years, he has been very good, and CSKA has many young players who need the help of such an experienced master as Igor Akinfeev, Krasic told the Championship.

Akinfeev is now 37 years old. As part of CSKA, the goalkeeper became a six-time champion of Russia, won seven national Cups and Super Cups, and also won the UEFA Cup. Together with the Russian team, he became the bronze medalist of the 2008 European Championship, and at the home tournament in 2018 he reached the quarterfinals with the team.

Live broadcasts of the MIR RPL and FONBET Russian Cup matches can be watched on the Match TV and MATCH PREMIER TV channels, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
