Barnsley have been excluded from the current FA Cup.
The team won the replay of the match with Horsham (3:0), but a player who had no right to take part in the match took part. Barnsley said in a statement:
Today we were informed by the FA that we will no longer be able to compete in the FA Cup this season.
An administrative error has been brought to our attention regarding the eligibility of a player who played in the match against Horsham last Tuesday. The Club cooperated fully with the investigation and accepted the FA’s decision. We have been in contact with FC Horsham FC would like to thank the club and the chairman for their understanding and co-operation throughout this process.
We would like to apologize to our fans, players and staff for this unfortunate mistake. This error, while unintentional, is not up to the standards we set at our club and is simply not something you should experience. We have already conducted a full internal investigation and have subsequently taken precautions to ensure this never happens again.
