Dzagoev’s first coach told what prevented the CSKA football player from leaving for Europe

Yuri Naniev, the first coach of ex-CSKA and Russian national team midfielder Alan Dzagoev, said what prevented the football player from building a successful European career.

On Tuesday, Dzagoev announced his retirement at the age of 33. His last club was the Greek Lamia.

– Alan decided that it was time to finish. He knows himself better, he sees that his health does not allow him to play, why torture himself.

I think he hasn’t fully developed himself; he could have become a better football player. He had a great start at CSKA, in the national team. Everything worked out well for him then. Then leapfrog with the coaches, and everything went downhill. I think if Valery Georgievich Gazzaev had stayed at CSKA, he would have gone to Europe. He treated him like a father, didn’t let him down, would squeeze all the juice out of him.

I would like him to stay in football, not as some kind of expert, but as a coach. I think he has the potential to become a good coach. He willingly worked with the guys from the younger group when he was still training with me,” Metaratings.ru quotes Naniev.

During his playing career, Dzagoev also played for Krylya Sovetov-SOK and Rubin Kazan. As part of CSKA, the midfielder became a three-time Russian champion, winning the country’s Cup and Super Cup four times each. The footballer played 59 matches for the Russian national team and scored nine goals.
