Dmitry Cheryshev left a mark on the history of an entire country.
There is one less Russian specialist in football Europe. Dmitry Cheryshev left the Andorran Santa Coloma, where he worked as head coach. The decision is controversial given his achievements at the club.
There have never been such successes in the entire history of Andorra!
“Good luck, phenomenon!”
A message about Cheryshev’s dismissal appeared on Santa Coloma’s social networks earlier this week. The club thanked the coach for his dedication, professionalism and dedication during his work. In the comments, fans were surprised by this decision, but accepted it. And they wished the Russian good luck.
— I respect you very much and appreciate the efforts and professionalism aimed at the progress of the team. Let there be only the best moments in your life, sir! — Bright Bajuga addressed Cheryshev.
— Good luck at the new stage of life, phenomenon! — added Eduardo Muñoz Campos.
Joint decision
The reason for the dismissal was not officially reported. Later, Cheryshev himself commented on the situation. According to him, the decision was made together with the club management.
— If last season the guys were patient, withstood physical stress and showed good results, then already in this championship some players cannot withstand such stress. I saw that the players were not ready for them, and in order to save the team, I decided to leave the club,” Cheryshev noted in an interview with Match TV.
Now the coach is preparing to return to Russia. Dmitry Nikolaevich noted that so far no one has made official offers to him. Nevertheless, he is ready to negotiate.
Rewrote club history
Cheryshev’s decision to leave Santa Coloma looks controversial. In a short time he became a legend of all Andorran football. His position in the club’s camp seemed unshakable.
Dmitry Cheryshev took charge of Santa Coloma in July last year. He was appointed by the famous hockey agent, a native of the USSR Dan Milstein, who became the owner of the Andorran club. Before their arrival, the “saints” were considered the giants of local football, having 12 championship titles in their collection. The team also made some noise in the European Cups, winning four matches in different years – this is a lot for Andorra!
But Cheryshev managed to rewrite the club’s history in a season and a half. Yes, in the national championship “Santa Coloma” took third place – not the highest achievement. But the team made a splash in the Conference League: having passed the Welsh Penybont and the Montenegrin Sutjeska, it reached the third round of European Cup qualifying for the first time in the history of Andorra. There was no chance against the Dutch AZ, but Santa Coloma gave a fight even to such a club, conceding only three goals in two matches.

Milstein was very pleased with Cheryshev’s work and was not afraid to state this publicly. It is interesting that Dan did not make the decision to fire the coach – according to Dmitry Nikolaevich, the club owner found out about this after the fact.
A newbie will have a hard time
We can say for sure that a specialist of Cheryshev’s level will not be left without work. It is unlikely that anyone will refuse a coach who was in the systems of Real Madrid, Sevilla and a number of RPL clubs. Even in Andorra, according to him, the level of football has grown greatly in recent years.
— The championship leaders would feel comfortable in the FNL. And they would have been in the first half of the table,” Cheryshev said in an interview with Sports.ru.
While the Russian is getting used to his unemployed status, Santa Coloma is looking for a head coach. It will not be easy for the newcomer, because now he will be compared to Cheryshev in one way or another. You get used to good things quickly!
