Inter Miami’s Argentine striker Lionel Messi was not included in the MLS national team for 2023, the league’s official website reports.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner joined Inter Miami as a free agent in July. He played six matches for the club in MLS, scored one goal and provided two assists.

The MLS symbolic team is as follows:

Goalkeeper: Roman Burki (St. Louis City);

Defenders: Matt Myazga (Cincinnati), Tim Parker (St. Louis City), Walker Zimmerman (Nashville);

Midfielders: Luciano Acosta (Cincinnati), Thiago Almada (Atlanta), Hector Herrera (Houston Dynamo), Hani Mukhtar (Nashville);

Forwards: Georgios Yakumakis (Atlanta), Kucho Hernandez (Columbus Crew), Denis Bouanga (Los Angeles).

Messi defended the colors of Barcelona from 2003 to 2021, with which he became the champion of Spain 10 times and won the Champions League four times. As captain of the Argentina national team, he helped the team win gold at the 2022 World Cup. Before moving to MLS, he also played for French side PSG.
