Zenit lost to Lokomotiv and lost its leadership in the RPL table

Lokomotiv Moscow defeated Zenit St. Petersburg in the match of the 17th round of the Russian Football Championship.

The meeting at the Russian Railways Arena ended with a score of 3:1. In the 8th minute, the hosts took the lead after a corner kick by Maxim Glushenkov and an error by the blue-white-blue goalkeeper Mikhail Kerzhakov, who cut the ball into his own goal. Zenit forward Mateo Cassierra restored the balance in the 41st minute. In the second half, Glushenkov and Nair Tiknizyan scored for the railway workers. The game started 30 minutes late due to heavy snowfall in Moscow.

Mikhail Galaktionov’s team beat Zenit for the second time in the RPL season – in the first round, Lokomotiv won in St. Petersburg with a score of 2:1.

Zenit has lost its lead in the championship standings; Sergei Semak’s team is in second place with 33 points, two points behind Krasnodar. Lokomotiv (28) is in sixth place.

In the next round, the blue-white-blues will host Paris NN Nizhny Novgorod on December 9, and Lokomotiv will play at home with Ekaterinburg Ural the day before.
