In Greece, referees and match staff announced that they would not referee local league matches due to dangerous working conditions. The text of the referee’s speech to the Central Referee Committee and the Hellenic Football Federation states:
In recent years, Greek and foreign referees have found themselves a constant target, a punching bag and a scapegoat.
Bullying, threats, verbal and physical aggression… These are just some of the problems that have ruined football.
As a result, Super League referees and assistant referees have decided not to referee any matches from round 14 until conditions are suitable for our safety.
This is how we want to protect ourselves and our families.
