“It turned out a little unhumanly.” CSKA coach talks about Fernandez’s move to Zenit

CSKA coach Murat Iskakov spoke about his attitude towards the transfer of former army club defender Mario Fernandez to Zenit.

Fernandez signed a contract with Zenit in the summer off-season. Previously, he defended the colors of the army team and, as part of the Moscow team, became a three-time Russian champion, winner of the country’s Cup and Super Cup.

— After Zenit’s goal, Mario rushed past you. What was that movement of the leg towards him?

– The temper showed up. What was he happy about? Apparently, a draw with his native club, which gave him the path to life. When wealthy people argue that “this is not money, they could have paid for me”… You were released for free a year ago! But Valentinovich (Fedotov) talked to him.

– When?

— In winter, at the training camp, when the option arose to bring Mario back: “Come on, come. You will help us in the end of the championship.” He: “I’ll come, I’ll train, just look at what condition I’m in.” Then everything dragged on. It already seemed to me: Mario has another contract that we don’t see. Apparently, this delay was necessary to force out the conditions. As a result, I am very upset. I understand, this is his life, career. But it turned out a little unnaturally.

— Did you communicate with Mario after Zenit?

– I don’t know him. When Sochi met with CSKA, they shook hands. I thought: a thorough man. I don’t want to insult Mario, but I wouldn’t act like him,” Sport24 quotes Iskakov as saying.

Live broadcasts of the MIR RPL and FONBET Russian Cup matches can be watched on the Match TV and MATCH PREMIER television channels, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.

According to the source, Levante had previously rejected the initial offer CSKA for 30 million euros. If the deal goes through, the Cameroonian striker’s transfer will become the most expensive in the history of national football. At the moment the most expensive is the transfer of the Brazilian Malcolm to Zenit St. Petersburg (41.5 million euros).

Etta-Eyong is 22 years old and has been playing for Levante since September 2025. This season he has played 16 matches in different tournaments, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists. The striker played 5 matches for the Cameroon national team, scoring 1 goal.

Dynamo planned to fire Shovkovsky in the summer. Why did you wait four months?

Former coach of Dynamo Kiev Alexander Showkovsky He should have been sacked in August after a poor performance in the Champions League qualifiers.

The blue-whites, who lost twice to Cypriot Paphos in the 3rd round of the European Cup (0:1 and 0:2), were relegated to the Europa League and then promoted to the Conference League.

“I know that Dinamo management believes that a change of coach could and should be made in the summer, after they lost to Paphos in the Champions League qualifiers.

Then an opportunity arose. But the necessary candidate was not available,” the source said.

Due to the lack of alternatives, the president of the Kiev club decided to leave Shovkovsky as head coach, but in November the Ukrainian specialist was nevertheless fired and left Dynamo.
