The Russian national football team may play a friendly match with the Serbian team in March, reports the Tanyug agency with reference to the Football Union of Serbia.

As noted, the game will take place on March 21 or 22 at the Gazprom Arena stadium in St. Petersburg, if permission is received from the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from international competitions in February 2022. After this, Valery Karpin’s team played friendly matches with the teams of Kyrgyzstan (2:1), Tajikistan (0:0), Uzbekistan (0:0), Iran (1:1), Iraq (2:0), Qatar (1:1 ), Cameroon (1:0), Kenya (2:2) and Cuba (8:0).

The Russian and Serbian national teams played in the same group in the Nations League in the 2020/21 season. The meeting of the teams in Moscow ended with a victory for the Russians with a score of 3:1; in Belgrade, the Serbs took revenge, winning 5:0.

The Serbian national team has qualified for the final stage of the 2024 European Championship, which will be held in Germany.
