Former Zenit and CSKA football player Maxim Bokov spoke about his attitude towards the appointment of Spaniard Robert Moreno as head coach of Sochi.

On Friday, 46-year-old Moreno signed a contract with the Russian club. As head coach, he replaced Alexander Tochilin, who was dismissed on December 3.

Previously, Moreno was on the coaching staffs of Roma, Celta and Barcelona. In 2019, he led the Spanish national team, which under his leadership won eight wins in ten matches and qualified for Euro 2020. He also served as head coach of Monaco and Granada.

— Why bring foreign specialists who have not distinguished themselves abroad? Doesn’t it make sense to give our coaches opportunities to work?

– I completely agree with you. I am also a domestic coach and I only advocate for having domestic coaches in our championship. I don’t think he is very superior to our specialists. But this is Sochi’s choice, the choice of the club’s owners. What we can do?

— Doesn’t it make sense to introduce some kind of minimum achievement level for inviting a foreigner?

— Every year we introduce some kind of standards and still these standards do not work. The level of our specialists is definitely not low. But, as you correctly noted, for some reason the emphasis is on foreigners. Apparently, because they can bring something new. What new things can be brought to football? — Bokov told Metaratings.ru.

Sochi, after 18 rounds of the MIR RPL season 2023/24, occupies the last, 16th place in the standings, gaining 11 points.

Ukraine national football teams completed 2025and the Ukrainian Football Federation summarize the results.

UAF reported: “In 2025, 156 matches (including friendly matches against clubs) were played by Ukrainian national, junior and youth men’s and women’s football teams, futsal, beach football and amphibious teams.”

Sergei Rebrov’s team had an unsuccessful start to 2025, losing to Belgium in the Nations League play-offs (3:1, 0:3). The blue-yellows played two friendly matches against Canada (2:4) and New Zealand (2:1) in June.

In the autumn, the Ukrainian team qualified for the 2026 World Cup and took second place in the group with France, Iceland and Azerbaijan. The blue-yellows made it to the play-offs to participate in the World Cup. During the year, the team had 5 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses, average score: 17-20.
