The head coach of the Italian Roma, Jose Mourinho, apologized to footballer Renato Sanches for making a reverse substitution.
Bologna defeated Roma in the home match of the 16th round of the Italian Championship. The meeting ended with a score of 2:0. Sanches entered the field in the 46th minute, but 18 minutes later Mourinho made a reverse substitution.
“I want to publicly apologize to Sanches, what I had to do was harsh. But this is even tougher on the coach himself. I’ve done this three or four times in my career. I apologize,” Mourinho said, as quoted by FootballItalia.
