Bernd ReichartCEO of A22 Sports Management, which is creating the Super League, spoke of his intention to convince clubs to participate in the new tournament.
On December 21, the European Court declared the ban on the project illegal FIFA AND of UEFA, allowing the competition to be carried out in compliance with the laws. IN of UEFA reacted by stating that the decision was not an endorsement or approval of the Super League.
This is a logical reaction to the loss of the monopoly. For the clubs it is about regaining their freedom without fear of threats. Court European Union said this of UEFA AND FIFA they abuse their dominant position and it’s over. So the door is open, we have presented another idea and now the clubs must evaluate it without the risk of sanctions. This is a big step. The bottom line is that football is now free and will remain free.
We want to launch the project as soon as possible, but the negotiations only last a few hours. We want to resume communication with the clubs, but on the same day. For a year and a half we have been conducting a dialogue with clubs concerned about the loss of competitiveness and fear for their stability and the sustainability of their revenues. Now we want to offer the best football in the world to the teams and their fans.
At this moment we must offer the clubs control of the tournament, so that they have their sovereignty, as happens in the championships. Teams should review the proposal, which is based solely on athletic merit and transparency. This will determine access to the Super League.
Obviously we have an objective and we hope to convince all the clubs, including those who said no today. Perhaps they did it because they had the 2021 Super League project in mind and could not study the new proposal we had presented. The Super League is now based on sporting results and is compatible with national leagues. We want to find consensus to give fans what they deserve: the best football every week, not just since February.
How do you plan to pay clubs taking into account free broadcasts? Mostly advertising. Because the best football in the world can boast global coverage, and this will allow it to refinance itself through advertising, which is what I have lived for twenty years.
