“The RFU made the right decision; the level of football in Asia is an order of magnitude lower” – Kobelev
Former head coach of Dynamo Andrei Kobelev supported the decision of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to refuse to move to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and remain in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
At a meeting on Wednesday, the RFU Executive Committee almost unanimously decided to remain in UEFA.
— I have long said, from the very beginning of all kinds of suspensions, that under no circumstances should you move to the Asian Confederation for a number of reasons. Firstly, this is the level of football itself – there it is an order of magnitude lower. Secondly, logistics – we would have to fly around half the globe. And thirdly, the most important thing, at the present time there will also be countries there that will not play with us: Australia, South Korea, Japan…
I think that now it is extremely important to improve our football and work systematically. From my point of view, the RFU made the right decision,” RT quotes Kobelev.
At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
