Initially the Europeans remain united.
As usual there is a lot of noise around the idea of creating a Super League. The project promoters even managed to present the format of the tournament (more details here). But, despite the court’s decision European Union on the legality of the Super League, still has enough opponents.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are the organizers
The presidents of Barça and Real Madrid, Joan Laporta and Florentino Perez, decided to raise a revolutionary wave. This is not surprising. The Catalans and Los Blancos have a great history of victories, but these are not the English giants with their millions in revenue. The Spanish leaders do not have such resources and, given the enormous spending of some and the crisis of others, there was interest in the influx of new money.
They were certainly satisfied with the court’s decision. The controversy over the tournament was immediately peppered with ideological slogans – this is what Super League CEO Bernd Reichart noted:
We won the right to compete. With a monopoly of UEFA it’s over. Football has become free. Clubs are now free from the threat of sanctions and can determine their own future.
Napoli is ready to lend a hand
No one publicly risks supporting the project. Only insiders know that Napoli is among those who agree with the Spanish giants. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis welcomed the news of the court’s decision: the official is ready to start a dialogue to develop the project together.
For the Neapolitans there is a reason to act this way: the club wants to become a serious force in Europe or at least not lose its existing core. This requires resources and influence. But there are very few examples where a team that flared up didn’t die out within a couple of years. What is happening with Ajax is the most clear confirmation of this.
In Italy against – Inter and Roma
Inter and Roma share a different point of view. The Romans touched on an important detail in their statement:
The Club does not support in any way any project of the so-called Super League, which would constitute an unacceptable attack on the importance of national championships and the foundations of European football.
Roma believes that the future prosperity of European football can only be guaranteed by the clubs’ collaboration within themselves European Court of Auditors in close collaboration with of UEFA AND FIFA.
Everything is clear with the selection principles for European competitions. There are areas Champions League, THE, LC – clubs are selected according to sporting principles in national championships. The Super League is isolated from the system developed over the years, plus it is willing to partially sacrifice the sporting principle in favor of strong signals. So where do phenomena like Ajax in the 18/19 season, Inter with Napoli and Milan in the last season and Sociedad in the current one come from?
Like the best clubs in the top European leagues
He managed to amass a decent list of those who opposed it. First, let’s look at the clubs.
Above all – representatives nuclear submarine and La Liga. Among the Spaniards there are Atlético Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal. Among the English teams there are United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea.
“Mattresses” noticed this of UEFA and it wasn’t a monopolist: only Real and Barça need the Super League.
The “citizens” were against the project when it was first discussed – and now they have noticed that the position has not changed at all since then.
Logically the “aristocrats”, the “Mancunians” and the “spurs” could limit themselves to tacit consent. Things are not going well for everyone this season, Manchester United in general, the prospects are constantly vague – and Laporta and Perez would generously give them a place in the Star or Golden leagues. But everyone remained faithful to the time-tested system.
Some representatives of the League intervene
If we talk about a unified football system, its fans must show unity, not just the clubs and of UEFA (Representatives of the Super League are determined to fight the resistance.) Even the representatives of the championship. The first was a statement on the official accounts of La Liga:
Today more than ever we reiterate that the Super League is a selfish and elitist model. Anything that isn’t completely open, with direct access only through national leagues, season after season, is a closed format. European football has already been talked about.
Subsequently with the support of of UEFA The Union of European Clubs (UEC) spoke: the organization supports teams that are not part of the elite of European football.
The Italian Football Federation underlined that the choice must be clear, since playing in multiple tournaments of different organizations is unthinkable. It’s one thing when we talk about consolidated championships and cups at the national level and European cups at the international level. Even so, some cannot handle the load. What happens if another expensive tournament is added?
The German Football League is concise in its comment:
The DFL fully supports the European sporting model and opposes competitions without federations and championships. We will comment on the decision in more detail once we are able to fully evaluate it.
In Britain they solve the problem in their own way
WITH nuclear submarine the situation is different: European legislation does not apply to the United Kingdom, so the League will have to restore order with its own hands. The country’s Ministry of Sports has already released a statement, underlining that the creation of the Super League is condemned by all fans, clubs and the government. And at the same time, the creation of a bill was announced that would not allow teams to participate in such tournaments.
According to the latest data, a nuclear submarine Sanctions will be applied to violating clubs: 30 points will be deducted and a fine of 29 million euros will be issued. Hence the unity of the greats.
